The LASER Education Foundation is delighted to welcome Helen McIntosh as its new Chair.
With her strong commitment to supporting communities and as an advocate for social mobility, Helen is exceptionally well-positioned to lead the new Charity’s Board of Trustees.
Having served as President of the Southeast London Chamber of Commerce for four terms of two years, Helen has just stood down and will remain on the Board. She has worked in public affairs locally for the last 30 years; her extensive experience and knowledge of the region will support LASER’s mission to transform the lives of children and young people through the power of education.
Helen was also conferred as Fellow of London South East Colleges in 2023, in recognition of her ongoing commitment to further education and the skills agenda. She has been a Fellow of the Charted Institute of Public Relations since 1999.
Commenting on Helen’s appointment, Dr Sam Parrett, CEO of the LASER Foundation says:
“We are delighted to have Helen on board. Her wealth of experience and insight will be of huge value to our new charity, helping us to achieve our overarching ambition – which is to improve the lives of people in our communities.
“I would also like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to Stephen Howlett our inaugural Chair, who played a foundational role in establishing LASER Education’s mission and values. Stephen’s guidance and commitment have laid a strong foundation, with his compassion and dedication leaving a valued legacy.
“With Helen now taking the lead as Chair, we look forward to the further expansion of LASER’s work and the positive impact it will have."
Helen added:
“I am honoured to take on this responsibility, building on the fantastic work that has already been done to set up this impactful charity.
“Many people across our communities face challenges when it comes to education. Through the LASER Foundation, we want to reduce these barriers, tackle social inequality and ensure that everyone has the opportunity to achieve their potential.
“I am very much looking forward to working with colleagues, stakeholders and funders to drive LASER forward and effect positive change”
